Fans of pop star Ayumi Hamasaki were surprised on Friday by a post on her fan club website revealing that the singer has gone completely deaf in her left ear. Hamasaki mentioned that she had her ear checked last year.

Japanese pop icon Ayumi Hamasaki wrote on her fan club website on Friday that she would continue singing despite losing her hearing in her left ear.
    Hamasaki said an ear examination last year confirmed her hearing loss.
    "Despite this news, I still wish to be a singer," she wrote.
    Hamasaki started to lose the hearing in her left ear in the summer of 2000 when momentary deafness forced her to cancel several concerts, according to a media report.
    The singer will start her second concert tour of Asia in April to mark the tenth anniversary of her singing career. The tour includes 19 concerts around Japan. The venues in other Asian countries have not yet been announced.

I READ about Ayumi Hamasaki recent disaster and I am really feeling very sad for her.
I agree that to some extent, due to her ear condition, and having listened to her performance on the recent Music Station Superlive, she was a bit off-key but she managed to pull through. She is one strong woman.
However, I think this is the time for her to take a break and try to get used to the fact that she has lost her hearing. She needs to rest and then return with a big bang.
A lot of people are talking about Kumi Koda rising up and getting the No. 1 spot but I think Ayumi doesn't need to worry about that because her fans will always be there for her.
Being an avid fan of Japanese Entertainment, I shall wait for Ayumi's return and I pray for her health and safety.
